SYNOPSIS :

ChirakumaraSabha is a Kannada translation of a Bengali play authored by Rabindranath Tagore. It is a slice of life play interlaced with mild humor.

ChirakumaraSabha is a small social committee constituted by members whose aim is to contribute to the betterment of society. The committee consists of Shirish, Bipin, Prof. Chandra Babu and others. All the members of this committee are sworn to bachelorhood. AkshayBabu, who used to be the head of this organization, has recently resigned from his post and is married to Purabala. Purabala’s mother, Jagattarini, her spinster sisters, Nirabala&Nrupabala and widowed sister, Shailabala, all stay at Akshay’s residence. Jagattarini is worried about her daughters’ marriage and is not able to find suitable grooms for them in a society plagued by the dowry system. RasikBabu, who helps Jagattarini in her search for suitable grooms, is not of much help. A disappointed Jagattarini leaves to Benaras with Purabala in search of grooms.

A concerned Shailabala hatches a plan to get Nirabala&Nrupabala married to Bipin&Shirish, who are staunch bachelors. How she implements her plan and succeeds with Akshay&RasikDada’s help forms the crux of the play. An offshoot of the play involves a love triangle between PurnaBabu, a new member of ChirakumaraSabha, Chandra Babu’s niece, Nirmala and another new member of ChirakumaraSabha, AbalakanthaBabu.

Things get more complicated when Jagattarini returns from Benaras after having succeeded in finding grooms for her daughters, who are now in love with Bipin and Shirish. The play climaxes with a resolution to all these complications.
