PLAYWRIGHT : WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE
ADOPTION : M L SRIKANTESHA GOWDA
DESIGN & DIRECTION : MANJUNATH L BADIGER
MUSIC : CHIDANAND KULKARNI
SYNOPSIS :
Shakespeare’s intertwined love polygons begin to get complicated from the start-Jayantha and Vasantha both want Kairave but she only has eyes for Jayantha. Bad news is,Kairave’s father wants Vasantha for a son-in-law. On the outside is Padmini, whose unreturned love burns hot for Vasantha. Kairave and Jayantha plan to flee from the city under cover of darkness but are pursued by an enraged Vasantha (who is himself pursued by an enraptured Padmini). In the forest, unbeknownst to the mortals, Manmatha and Rathi are having a spat over a servant boy. The plot twists up when Manmatha’s head mischief-maker, Ashuga, runs loose with a flower which causes people to fall in love with the first thing they see upon waking. Throw in a group of labourers preparing a play for the Arjuna and Pramila’s wedding (one of whom is given a donkey’s head by Ashuga) and the complications become fantastically funny.
